About Akindeyah

I am a multidisciplinary artist based in the New York Metropolitan Area with creative specialties in Music (vocals, piano, percussion, songwriting, production), Creative Writing (poetry, short stories), and visual art (linocut printmaking, graphic design).

Creating music is how I explore feelings of intimacy, passion, and rejection by way of imaginative soundscapes. Throughout my work, I utilize my vocal prowess as a singer, technical ability as a trained piano player, and willingness to incorporate afro-diasporic rhythms as a percussionist to compose songs that each have their own lineage of influences. The breadth of inspirations that shape my compositions ranges from the clave of Afro-Cuban Rumba to the lyrical vulnerability of Mitski, whose angst still captivates me.

When I perform my original music live for different audiences, it inspires feelings of awe in people, with listeners describing my songs as “ethereal,” “hypnotic,” and “captivating.” Whether I am accompanied by a live band of seasoned musicians, a self-produced backing track, or myself on a keyboard, the personal motto that I use to describe the intentionality and intensity of my music is “aesthetic rigor.” As a musician, I aim to inspire people through authentic displays of technique, innovation, and emotion. Ultimately, Akindeyah means the strong one is here, and that is the creative ethos that I always strive for whenever I’m on stage.
